Acapella Folk
After ending my enjoyable time with CSI:Halifax, partly to concentrate on Guitar skills for a while, I sought other opportunities to keep singing.
I saw Louise’s well named ‘Singing For Fun’ Group listed on the Holmfirth Info Website. I started attending in 2017 and found this to be very different with a focus on world music, rounds, harmonies and traditional folk songs usually performed acapella.
The group was based in four different Holme Valley locations during my time with them:
1. Hope Bank Works ~ Honley
2. Full Life Church ~ Thongsbridge
3. Holmfirth Tech ~ Holmfirth
4. In our homes, online, via Zoom
The group did perform at Holmfirth Folk Festival but diary clashes meant that I missed those events. I did manage though to perform with them at Holmfirth Tech cafe concert and at Open Mic Nights held at The Box Office Bar, Holmfirth Picturedrome.
Some of those concerts provided the opportunity from me to also perform solo acoustic guitar and vocals spots, including a couple of my original songs ‘Sign on Again’ and ‘Out of Order’.

Sing For Water
In September 2019, six of us joined with several other local singing groups and participated in the Annual ‘Sing for Water’ – Water Aid fundraiser. This was held in the now under redevelopment Huddersfield Market Hall.
We didn’t know at the time of the sites future arts & culture role, as part of the Huddersfield Blueprint project. We we’re unwitting pathfinders for its use as a performing venue!

We especially enjoyed performing Karine Polwart’s Scottish folk song ‘Follow the Heron’.
