Imposter Syndrome
Volume Level 11 …
A conversation with my colleague Robert, led to the origins of the song. We noted that IT professionals simply couldn’t decide if, when authenticating to a computer system, the user should Sign on, Sign In, Log on or Log In? Even worse, often there was the mixed choice of Signing in and then Logging Off etc.
So that debate drove the start of the chorus and led to the songs go to riff using the modulation across the root chord and suspended variants of the root. D, DSus4, D, DSus2.
‘Sign on Again’ lyrics then reflected upon the two-sides of the coin of using, the then prominent, social media apps / websites like Facebook, MySpace, Friends Reunited, LinkedIn etc. We felt that on the positive side they enable us to make or maintain contact with friends and families and have fun. On the other they consumed our time on banal trivia and could even enable peer pressure, bragging and bullying.
I can only recall three public performances to-date, an open mic, a singing group concert and at my leaving do when Robert got to hear the outcome of the song he helped inspire.
