Rainbows Fade

Rainbows Fade was written in 2020 and reflects upon the first year of the Covid19 pandemic. Here in the UK people followed the lead from other countries and took to the streets to clap for our health care and other key workers. People joined in the viral display of Rainbows in their windows to show support for the NHS (National Health Service).

Time passed, people became weary, impatient and reckless. The rainbows faded in their windows in parallel with their weakening resolve to act in social interest.

This was my first attempt at writing a song starting other than with my acoustic guitar. My keyboard skills are very modest but I wrote this at the piano and on a Nektar MIDI keyboard.  The piano part is mainly chords / arpeggios. Meanwhile the MIDI captured part drives a ‘Dexed’ Yamaha DX7 Synthesizer emulation.

I play guitar and bass guitar and arranged the EZ Drummer for the percussion.  Some bass parts were also emulated via MIDI. Whilst the lyrics are written but I have not yet captured the vocals, so this is an instrumental version.
